Lots of familiar faces at the 4-H Meat Animal Beef Show today at the Wyoming County Fair! Still 5 FULL fair days left, so make sure you get on down to Pike and check out all it has to offer. Oh, and a special shout out to our Future Farmers of America chapter, which was named Reserve Grand Champion in the 4-H/FFA Exhibits Competition for their Treasure Chests & Diary Quests booth chronicling some of the history of the Attica FFA chapter. Way to go!

Attica's Summer Ag Camp got off to an exciting start earlier this week with a visit from Katie Carpenter, owner of Vintage Cow. She taught students how to make ice cream and discussed the dairy industry and entrepreneurship. Our campers also got to taste test her new “Mystery Moo” flavored ice cream. Attica appreciates the support from Katie Carpenter and Vintage Cow - our campers had a fantastic day!

Our Summer Ag Campers welcomed a special guest to camp today! Don Gasiewicz, a natural resources/horticulture program manager with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wyoming County, stopped by to speak with students about what role pH plays in healthy plants and what types of vegetables are most suitable for growing this time of year. After, Gasiewicz and ag camp counselors Ms. Jenelle Bauer and Mrs. Melissa Brooks led campers out to our high tunnel, where they tested the soil’s pH level using a kit Gasiewicz had brought with him and then planted some leafy greens which they’ll be able to harvest once the new school year starts. Our ag campers finished off their day by making pickling some green beans and enjoying some worms and dirt in our cafeteria kitchen!

Today marked the end of our first ever girls summer youth basketball camp! Throughout the week-long girls camp, coaches Rob Crowley, Mandy Kaiser and Cassie Furr worked with campers to improve their ball-handling, passing and shooting skills. After today’s practice, Coach Crowley handed out camp certificates and awards before campers headed to the high school lobby for soda and pizza. Our Blue Devils’ basketball future is looking bright!

At one of our summer learning camp days last month, campers had a chance to make smoothies and parfaits in our cafeteria! A huge shout out to Milk for Health, whose funding allowed us to offer this fun (and delicious) activity for our campers! (Photos courtesy of Alicia Spoth)

All other modified sports will start September 4. The JV and varsity cheer teams are looking for 7th and 8th graders interested in coming out for the cheer team.
