Our fourth graders have been learning about the weather in science class and, before Winter Recess, applied their knowledge while undertaking an “Cloud in a Bottle” investigation in our elementary school’s multipurpose room. Our fourth graders did a great job and got some hands-on experience using different science tools. This is the first of two Science Investigations that they will complete this year! A belated congratulations to our Scholastic Bowl team, which captured the Scholastic Bowl Title last month! The Blue Devils were the underdogs in the finals, taking on the top two seeds, Pembroke and Oakfield-Alabama. But when the buzzer rang, it was Attica on top with 230 points to Pembroke’s 220 and Oakfield-Alabama’s 200l Competing in the finals for Attica were juniors Emily Peters and Julia Wise and freshmen Noah Robinson and Michael Minter. Other team members this season were Kate Metzger, Kim Piorun, Sam Dunlap, Boden Spink and Blake Donohue. The head coach was Jocelyn Pierce. (Photos courtesy of Lyndsay Herkimer)

We stopped by one of Mrs. Lisa Young's physical education classes this morning for the last day of students’ rock-climbing unit! It looked like fun, but don’t hold us to that because we kept our feet FIRMLY on the ground. Young's fourth period students wrapped up class with a race between juniors Maddie King and Rebekah Clark. First person to ring the bells was the winner - it was a close one! Check it out at the link below! Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnZDNlxfcPg

There’s a new member of the 1,000-point club. Huge congratulations to Cole Harding, who scored the 1,000th point of his varsity basketball career (and then some) last night during the Blue Devils’ 77-50 win over the Holley Hawks. The key basket came with about 1:37 to go in the first quarter on a second effort putback to push the Blue Devils’ lead to 15-9. With his 19-point effort against the Hawks Wednesday, Cole now has 1,013 career points and sits in third place among Attica’s all-time points leaders in boys basketball - one spot ahead of his coach, Rob Crowley, who scored 969 points for the Blue Devils from 2003 to 2006. Congratulations, Cole, on this incredible achievement! Check out the video linked below to see the special moment! Shout out to Jack Janes, who was recognized as a PrimeTime Sports Athlete of the Week following his 24-, 22- and 29-point performances against Pembroke, Kendall and Notre Dame last week. Congrats, Jack! Our boys are next in action tonight as they travel to Holley to take on the 5-13 Hawks.

Our Farm to School Coordinator, Mrs. Alicia Spoth, was on the scene last Friday for our Buddy Fruit Taste Testing event during elementary, middle and high school lunches! Buddy Fruits are blended fruit snacks that come in a variety of flavor combinations. Last week, students chose between an “Apple Orchard” or an “Apple Cinnamon” blend. Spoiler alert - these were a hit!

Almost forgot to share this! To celebrate our Elementary School Counselor Amanda Crowley and in honor of National School Counseling Week last week, our kiddos “posted” words of thanks, gratitude and appreciation all over Crowley’s door! As you can see, our elementary schoolers think Mrs. Crowley is the best - we quite agree! (Photos courtesy of Ann Tambe)
