FARM TO SCHOOL: We stopped by our middle/high school cafeteria today to check out our school nutrition team’s New York Thursdays offerings!
A statewide initiative, New York Thursdays highlights New York-grown and produced food items during school meals once per week. It’s intended to maximize the amount of locally produced food students have access to at school while, at the same time, saving the district money in the form of increased state aid reimbursements.
It’s truly a win-win-win for students, our district and local farmers!
Today’s lunch menu is below - take a look to see all the New York-grown products!
• Hotdog on a bun: Hotdogs from Wardynski’s Meats (Buffalo)
• Side salads: Tomatoes from our district’s high-tunnel greenhouse, cucumbers from American Fruit and Vegetable Company (Rochester), bread and butter pickles from our district’s Summer Agriculture Club.
• Carrots: Headwater Foods (Ontario, Wayne County)
• Apples: LynOaken Farms (Medina)
• Peaches: American Fruit and Vegetable Company (Rochester)
• Milk: Upstate Farms (Farmer-owned dairy cooperative comprising more than 300 farms - most in Western New York)

The holidays may still be months away, but our elementary school chorus members are already hard at work rehearsing.
We snuck a listen for a few minutes this morning and now we can’t wait for their concert!

Open and shut, open and shut, this is the way we CUT CUT CUT!
Today was a big day for Mrs. Audra McDonald’s kindergarten students who learned how to be safe with scissors before trying their hand - literally - at cutting along a line.
Students started off practicing cutting straight lines. After getting a feel for their scissors, they tried more challenging curved lines.
We saw a lot of improvement with each new line our kindergarteners snipped - way to go!

Hey Devils Nation, something tells us you’re going to like the look of the New York State Sportswriters Association’s state football rankings this week…

Turns out kindergarten is hard work, so students in Mrs. Chaunda Hertel’s class took a dance break this morning to wake themselves up and get ready to learn!
Nice moves, kindergarteners!

A reminder to all families: Help your family and our district community by completing your free-to-reduced price lunch application as soon as possible!

Mrs. Jessica Edwards’ fourth graders took advantage of today’s sun with a bit of playground time this afternoon at Attica Elementary.

Mrs. Jenna Linsey sent her new students on a virtual scavenger hunt this morning to help familiarize them with her science room and the equipment in it.
Happy hunting!

FARM TO SCHOOL: It’s CORN… and boy was seventh grader Steel Prefontaine enjoying an ear at lunch yesterday during our first New York Thursdays of the school year!
A special thanks to Merle’s Fresh Produce for the big lumps with knobs - they definitely had the juice!

Mark your calendars for Oct. 3, Devils Nation - it’s the night of our varsity girls volleyball team’s Dig Pink Game.
You can take in a quality volleyball match, support our girls and raise money for breast cancer awareness, care and research - all in one fell swoop!
And don’t forget to grab a tshirt - they’re $15 and can be purchased from any volleyball player or in the main office of any school building.
Last year, we raised more than $2,000 - let’s see if we can top that on Oct. 3!

FARM TO SCHOOL: This year, Attica Central Schools will be participating in New York Thursdays, a statewide initiative meant to maximize the amount of locally produced food students have access to at school.
Alicia Spoth, our farm-to-school coordinator, Kris Wicks, our food service director, and our entire food service team made this a priority last year so joining the initiative for the 2023-24 school year was an easy decision.
Check out our New York Thursdays menu for September below.

Few shots from day 1 of the 2023-24 school year.
Only 180(ish) more to go!

Notice: All of the buses will be about 1/2 hour late today in dropping off your child due to a delay in releasing them from school.

Really diggin’ seniors’ parking spots this year - shout out to senior Alanna Pellicane for her shots from spot painting day last month and to Mr. John Versage, who dusted off his drone this morning to grab some aerial photos.

Reminder: The Attica Fitness Center will be closed for the holiday on Monday 9/4/23. It will reopen on Tuesday from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.

We’ve posted our 2023-2024 district calendar on our website at the link below.
