Last month, two buses full of fifth and sixth graders headed to Boston for their annual Whale Watch trip for the first time in four years! While the trip’s been going strong for three decades, the coronavirus pandemic derailed the last several trips, so our students and chaperones were happy to return to Beantown.
Whales were plentiful and very active and the sighting of a calf brought a special degree of excitement to students and chaperones alike.
Other activities on the trip included visits to the Prudential Center, Boston Tea Party Museum and Quincy Market in Boston, a "DUCK" Tour on a World War II-style amphibious vehicles through the city on the Charles River and tours of the New York State Museum in Albany and Howe Caverns in Schoharie County.
Experiences were had and many stories will be told regarding the highlights of the three days spent on the road. Students' behavior would make Attica proud and we look forward to continuing this tradition and experience in the future!
Shout out to our parents and chaperones for all these great photos!
FARM TO SCHOOL: Shout out to GreenStalk Gardens for its donation of two, seven-tier vertical grow towers to our district!
These towers will be shipped to us in the near future and will be assembled and ready for our students to start growing fruits and vegetables for the 2023-24 school year!
Thank you, GreenStalk!

SENIOR SPOTLIGHTS: And here it is, our final batch of seniors!
Whatever the future holds for our students, we’re grateful for the time we got to spend with them and know they’ll make Attica proud, regardless of the path they choose to walk.
Congratulations, Attica Class of 2023!
Fifth and sixth graders assembled at Alumni Field Tuesday morning for the annual 5th/6th Grade Track and Field Meet.
Congratulations to Mr. Adam Landphair’s class, which finished first among our fifth grade classrooms, and to Mrs. Ellie Durfee’s class, who finished first among sixth grade classes.
Fair warning, Attica - you may want to grab some sunglasses, because the future of our track and field program is looking pretty darn bright!
Fifth graders enjoyed their recent field trip to Cumming Nature Center, which is an outreach of the Rochester Museum of Science.
During their field trip, students took part in the Ecological Exploration Program, collecting data from field, forest and pond communities to gain insight into communities, succession, food webs and population dynamics.
They also participated in mindfulness group games and activities.
Thanks to Cummings Nature Center for having us!

A huge congratulations to Mrs. Becki Peters, who has been named the Attica Lions Club’s Citizen of the Year for 2023.
An English teacher in our high school, Peters was nominated for the award by fellow Lion Carl Kocsi.
In addition to her teaching duties at Attica, Peters is the Advanced Placement Coordinator, helps coach the Mock Trial team, is an advisor for the National Honor Society, has been a high school class advisor and has served regularly in the after-school WIN program, which provides tutoring and helps students complete late or missing work in order to achieve their full academic potential.
Outside of school, the Lions credited Peters with being an “integral” part of the club’s many service efforts.
“Countless times when Lions were looking for volunteers, she reached out to her students to help and assist,” said the club in announcing Peters’ award. “This includes the Red Kettle Drive, Trash pickup, and Germanfest just to name a few.”
In a letter supporting her nomination, Matt Stroud, Attica’s director of curriculum, described Peters as “
“Becki has walked the halls and classrooms of Attica Central Schools for many years as both a student and a teacher, and regardless of what role she is in, her selfless and supportive nature has shown through,” wrote Stroud. “I was happy to call her a friend when we were students, appreciative of the opportunity to now work with her as a colleague, and pleased to know that she is receiving this honor as Citizen of the Year, as I know that it is an honor both well–deserved and genuinely earned.”
Congratulations, Mrs. Peters!
SENIOR SPOTLIGHTS: After 13 years, it’s nearly time to say goodbye to our seniors.
Over the next few days, we’ll be highlighting each and every member of the Class of 2023 and their plans after graduation. Congratulations, Attica Class of 2023!
Congratulations to Attica senior Ryan Meides for being chosen as one of Section V's 9 scholarship winners. Besides submitting his application, Ryan had to write 2 essays. The first one, pertained to what lessons he learned from participating in athletics and secondly, what role those lessons will play in his future endeavors. On behalf of the Attica Athletic Department, I would like to wish Ryan the best of luck as he moves on to the next stage of his life.
Friday’s rain couldn’t keep our elementary schoolers from a fun and informative Farm Day last week!
A huge thank you to the Future Farmers of America members and all our other community partners who helped make this such a special day for our students.

Happy Juneteenth, Attica!
Our nation’s newest federal holiday can trace its roots to June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger announced to the people of Galveston, Tx., General Order No. 3, which served to formally inform Texas residents that slavery had ended.
As President Joe Biden observed during a recent concert in celebration of the holiday at the White House, “Juneteenth, as a federal holiday, is meant to breathe new life into the very essence of America, to make sure all Americans feel the power of this day and the progress we can make as a country; to choose love over hate, unity over disunion, and progress over retreat.”
The accompanying photograph shows a celebration of Emancipation Day - a precursor to Juneteenth - in Richmond, Virginia, circa 1905.
Attica Central School District was well represented at the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge last night in Buffalo.
Congratulations to our team for their participation in the 3.5-mile run/walk event.
It was a great time enjoying each other's company and we have set a recruitment goal for the 2024 event to have 100 employees participate.
Thank you again for all those that participated and, as always, go Blue Devils!
