Amendment to Reopening Plan (August 2020)
On April 9, 2021, the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH) released its updated “Interim Guidance for In-person Instruction at Pre-K to Grade 12 Schools during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency.” This document reflects changes to the original document provided in the summer of 2020. It has been updated periodically throughout the pandemic and we have followed the guidance and regulations as prescribed by the NYSDOH. As such, we are updating the Attica CSD Reopening Plan, as allowed under the NYSDOH guidance document released on April 9, 2021, in the following regards:
- Prekindergarten to Grade 6 students may now reduce physical distancing from 6 feet to 3 feet regardless of color zones
- Masks must be worn at all times
- Seating arrangements on the buses will be modified to maintain spacing as much as possible
We have participated in meetings with the Wyoming County Department of Health and have followed their direction and guidance in making changes to our reopening plan. To determine our communities’ tolerance of risk and to safely reopen as fully as possible for the elementary grades, we have held multiple meetings with administrators, conducted parent surveys and hosted a community forum. This offered opportunities for feedback from parents, community members, teachers and staff.
At this time, we are amending our plan to reflect these changes by reducing the physical distancing requirement of 6 feet to 3 feet for students in Prekindergarten to Grade 6 and the implementation of wearing masks at all times. This change will allow our PreK-Grade 6 students to attend school for in-person instruction all five days a week at full capacity. All other aspects of our Reopening Plan remain intact and in effect as stated.
Beginning on Monday, April 26, 2021, all students in Prekindergarten to Grade 6 will be able to attend school for in-person instruction on a full time basis, following the adopted 2020-21 instructional calendar. Parents and students will continue to have the option to choose a fully virtual learning model as well.
