Kiel Illg.

Dear Attica School Community,

While our students and staff enjoyed a well-deserved Presidents’ Day Recess, things have been anything but quiet at Attica Central School District.

Our Administrative team and Board of Education have been hard at work preparing a 2025-26 budget proposal for district voters to consider at our annual budget vote in May. As part of this process, our Board of Education will hold another budget workshop on February 27, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. in our High School Library. We encourage all community members to attend, ask questions, and gain insight into the budget proposal they will soon have the opportunity to vote on.

Another exciting highlight: After several years, our drama club is bringing back a musical! We invite you to join us for the debut of Freaky Friday: A New Musical on Friday, February 28, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 1, at 2 p.m. in our Performing Arts Center. Our talented students and dedicated crew have worked tirelessly, and we can’t wait for the community to experience their hard work and passion firsthand.

Our annual Band in the Round Concert, always a favorite of our district’s fine arts calendar, is coming up on March 4. We look forward to this concert, which brings student musicians from 5th to 12th grade together under one roof, every year and know you’ll enjoy the program our students and musical directors have been preparing.

If visual arts interest you, make sure you stop by the WYCO Arts Council Gallery, 31 South Main St., Perry, between Feb. 28 and March 22 for the Wyoming County Arts Council’s High School Art Show. The work of 10 of our students are on display as part of the annual show.

And if you prefer an athletic contest to an artistic endeavor, we have multiple athletic teams competing in sectional competitions this week.

Our #9-seeded girls basketball team is set to take on #8 seed Addison tomorrow - Tuesday, Feb. 25 - in the Section V Class B2 quarterfinals. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. at Avoca Central Schools, 17 Oliver St., Avoca.

The following day - Wednesday, Feb. 26 - our #12-seeded boys team heads to Marcus Whitman to face the #5 seed Wildcats. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Marcus Whitman High School, 4100 Baldwin Rd., Rushville.

Members of our girls and boys indoor track team will also be competing at the state qualifier on Friday, Feb. 28 at Nazareth College, we wish all of our teams the best of luck in their postseason competitions.

A key priority in our district’s strategic plan is strengthening community engagement. When families, local business owners, and civic leaders actively participate in school activities, volunteer programs, and decision-making processes, they bring valuable perspectives, resources, and advocacy that enhance educational opportunities for all students.

How can you get involved? We are seeking district residents to serve on our standing committees within the District, including our district strategic planning committee, smart schools bond committee, and professional growth committee. If you’re interested in learning more, please contact my office.

At Attica, we firmly believe that strong partnerships between our schools and the community lead to greater student success—from improved academic outcomes to increased motivation and a more connected, vibrant learning environment. Our students benefit when they see firsthand the investment and support of those around them.

Thank you, as always, for your commitment to our students, staff, and district. Your involvement makes all the difference.

With gratitude,

Dr. Kiel Illg
Superintendent of Schools
