Participants
Attica students age 8 to 22 who have developmental disabilities join activities where they can develop recreational interests, learn about their comm unity, and have fun with peers.
Peer Volunteers
Learn how to support participants according to their individual needs, gain more understanding of disabilities and diversity, and make a positive difference in a peer’s life.
Activity Leaders
Create an experience where all individuals and talents are included, and promote community awareness and inclusion.
How long is each activity?
An activity can be one event, such as attending a swim night, school dance or after-school football game, an ongoing experience, like a dance, martial arts or gymnastics class at the Warsaw or Batavia YMCA, or continuing participating in a community organization like the Boy Scouts.
What does an activity look like?
It can be any organized recreational or extracurricular school activity in which students typically take part. Attica TIES coordinator, Jennifer Rautenstrauch, a parent in the Attica Central School District, will work with you to develop a support plan for your child that will meet his or her needs and then share the plan with your child's trained peer volunteer and the activity leader. The peer volunteer attends the activity with your child and provides support with physical, social, and/or language needs.

Seeing the smiles on the student's face shows they feel supported, are able to fully participate, and have fun. This is an excellent program for our school community!”
